Abstract

1396621 Valves BRAUKMANN ARMATUREN AG 18 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 2746/73 Heading F2V In a pressure reducing valve having a spring- biased to open closure member 22, Fig. 1, and a diaphragm 7 subjected to downstream pressure via pasaage 38 and chamber 37 to move the valve member towards its closed position, an annular constriction 33 is provided upstream of the closure member to increase the speed of flow thereat and thereby reduce the pressure in a chamber 42 containing a piston 21 provided to balance the pressures acting on the closure member. Thus the static balancing pressure in chamber 42 is reduced to a value more representative of the associated static pressure acting on the closure member when the latter is open and some of the static pressure thereat is lost to kinetic energy. The lower end of tube 34 may be outwardly flared, Fig. 2 (not shown), or the inner surface of the lower end of housing part 24 may be chamfered to a much greater degree than that shown in Fig. 1.
