Abstract

1396086 Metal strip heating furnace ARMCO STEEL CORP 17 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 58283/73 Heading F4B In a furnace for heating metal strip in which the strip passes over rolls located outside the heating and/or cooling chambers, the surface of the rolls is maintained at substantially the temperature of the strip passing over them by means independent of the strip or the furnace chambers. In a furnace for heating ferrous strip before a coating process, the support rolls 30, 36 &c. are located in chambers separated by baffles from the heating or cooling chambers, and radiant tubes 74 in each roll chamber are controlled by thermocouples 78 in the roll chambers to maintain the temperature of the roll chamber and hence of the surface of the rolls to that of the strip passing over the rolls as sensed at 76.
