Abstract

1395788 Drying gases WABCO WESTINGHOUSE GmbH 9 Aug 1972 [17 Aug 1971 37182/72 Heading B1L Compressed air from compressor 6, which has to be dried, is delivered by port 4, chamber 27, labyrinth 23, 24 and orifice 25 to the annular cooling zone 21. Cooling condenses a considerable part of the moisture and the air flows upwards via orifice 20 through dust and oil filter 17 to the drying mass 15 through filter 16 orifices 19 and 26 to the outlet port 7 and thence to reservoir 10. When the reservoir reaches a predetermined pressure the regulator 9 apply the pressure of the reservoir to the port 12 by way of pipe 11 and this moves piston 30 into the regeneration position. The flow is now compressor 6, deflector plates 23, 24 which act as an oil separator, chamber 28, orifice 19 filters 16, 15 and 17 where moisture is removed, orifices 20 and 39 to discharge port 13. When the pressure in the reservoir drops again the process is repeated under the control of regulator 19.
