Abstract
1395419 Heat-treating crank-shafts DAIMLER-BENZ AG 24 July 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 34545/72 Heading C7N A component having axial portions 4 connected to shoulders 2 by a radiussed transitional regions 3, and which is to be straightened after hardening, is locally hardened so that the axial portion has a hardened zone 1 of uniform depth which extends over at least half the transitional region before reducing to zero at a location beyond that region. The intensity of hardening is shown by contour 6. In the modification of Fig.3 a double hardening operation is employed, the tempering effect of the second one modifying the initial hardness contour 11' into the final form 11.
