Abstract

1395394 Stoppers BIOSPECTRUM Inc 25 April 1972 [29 April 1971] 19092/72 Heading B8T [Also in Division B1] A container for use in filtering liquids and for containing the filtrate comprises body portion 14 which may be cylindrical (preferred), square, rectangular or triangular in cross-section, and has flat base 11, a circular cross-sectional neck portion 16 integral with the body portion and having minimum inside diameter “ to <SP>3</SP>/ 5 of the maximum outside dimension of the body portion, and a flared portion integral with and extending upwardly from the neck portion and terminating in lip 17, lip 17 optionally containing one or more spouts 18, and the lip opening having maximum outside diameter less than the maximum outside diameter of the body portion. The container may be of glass or plastics, and may be closed by the stopper of Fig. 3 which has an outer portion 31 with depending skirt 32 which may be of polypropylene and an inner more flexible portion 33 with a hollow centre 34, the upper portion 36 of the stopper being dish-shaped to aid in stacking. The flexible portion 33 preferably extends to the top of skirt 31, and is held in position by engagement of a groove 38 in the flexible portion and a tongue 37 in outer portion 31, parts of groove 38 being filled in. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown), the upper portion of the container (beyond the minimum inside diameter plane) is frustoconical.
