Abstract
1395383 Drying articles CARRIER DRYSYS Ltd 9 Aug 1973 [31 Aug 1972] 40482/72 Heading F4G [Also in Divisions B2 and C7] A vehicle body or similar article is dipped electrophoretically, or spray painted, phosphated, dried or otherwise treated when mounted with its centre of gravity located substantially on, and its longitudinal axis at an acute angle to, an axis of rotation about which the body is rotated or oscillated when mounted in a cradle (Fig. 14) comprising two co-axial rings 13, 14. As shown the rings 13, 14 are releasably interconnected by a top bar 52 and pivoted at the bottom, for lowering to the horizontal for loading of the body, at 48, 49 to vehicle supports 50, 51 on which a body skid 59 is secured. One ring at least has a toothed ring 24 or segment for rotating or oscillating the body. As shown in Fig. 12 the body is successively dipped in alkali, rinsing and phosphating solution tanks by operation of a winch 41 which lowers it vertically on to rollers 43 in each tank and rotating the cradle by a chain 44 or by a pivoted endless track arrangement 44 (Fig. 11, not shown). Alternatively the cradle is rolled (Fig. 10) by a roller 36 on a depending arm 35 along two tracks 34 at the bottom of the tank. Preferably the cradle is rolled by a chain 13 (Fig. 8) engaging it at the top along a pair of tracks 18/19 down and up the sloping side walls of successive tanks, each tank having one or two gaps in the tracks where the cradle falls on to rollers 26, 27 which rotate the cradle. After rotation the leading roller 26 is lifted to 26a when the cradle re-engages the chain 23 and proceeds to the next treatment stage.
