Abstract

1394913 Transformer tap changing systems MASCHINENFABRIK REINHAUSEN Gebr SCHEUBECK KG 11 Jan 1973 [15 Jan 1972] 1550/73 Heading H2H An on-load transformer tap changing apparatus comprises a first winding having a single tapping and a second winding having a plurality of tappings, the apparatus further comprising a plurality of switching devices, all of which have an interlinked driving arrangement, the switching device being operative to vary the voltage applied to a load from a maximum value to a minimum value or vice versa. Transformer tap changing apparatus includes a winding Gw and a coarse selector switch G the operating contact of which is movable to be in contact with one or the other end of the winding Gw. A second winding Fw is provided, having a plurality of tappings 1-n arranged in a circle as shown in Fig. 4, a further contact k being placed in the circle between the contacts 1 and n. A switch W is ganged, both electically and mechanically, to the switch G, the operation of the switch W being such that it contacts one or other of the ends of the winding Fw. A switch F is provided for selecting the tappings on the winding Fw, the switch F comprising two alternately movable arms Fal, Fa2, the arms contacting adjacent tappings and moving two tappings at a time, thus "leap-frogging" each other. A further change-over type switch U is provided, operation thereof connecting the contact k with one end of the winding Gw or with the electrical connection between the switches G and W. In operation as the arms Fal, Fa2 of the tapping selector switch F are moved around the tappings a pin B associated therewith operates the switch U by means of a Geneva mechanism M 1 and thereafter the switches G and W by means of a second Geneva mechanism M2, the arms of the switch F moving around the circle a requisite member of times to complete the whole operation from maximum buck to maximum boost or vice versa. Connection to an electrical source is made at terminal Z and to a load at terminal A. A load diverter switch can be incorporated to permit switches G, W to be operated under no-load conditions.
