Abstract
1394744 Spatial filtering; television PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 June 1972 [12 June 1971] 27076/72 Heading H4F Spatial filtering of a transparent object 10 is effected by opening a Fourier transform of the object using coherent light 5, locating a spatial filter 12 in the transform plane, separating out images filtered in different manner, treating the filtered images as at 25, 26 and mixing the treated filtered images to give a single output display 28. A beam splitter 22 may be used to give two transform spectrums of the object; a filter, e.g. 12 may be located only in one transform plane, or each transform plane may have an appropriate filter. The filtered signals are fed to television cameras 23, 24 and processed in modulators 25, 26. If desired only one transform plane may be used with the beam splitters and cameras located after that plane. Alternatively only one camera may be used and the first filtered function stored for processing and mixing with a second filtered function at a later time. The single camera may be for colour and the wavelength of the coherent light adjustable. The filter may be optical and comprises two opposed wedge-shaped portions disposed symmetrical about the optical axis with a central portion permitting passage unaltered of the zero order. Two such wedge filters may be used and may be rotated relative to each other to give a variable filter function.
