Abstract

1394645 Bellows seals; valves M I GROMYKO G V POTOROCHIN Y A TUNIK and B S MALKOV 16 March 1973 12672/73 Headings F2B and F2V A sealing arrangement for an actuating rod 7 of a valve arrangement comprises two bellows 8, 9 confining an auxiliary fluid, and means defining a predetermined pressure differential between the fluid and pressurized medium in an outlet passage 3 of the valve, said means comprising membranes 14, 15 of respective predetermined areas spaced by a component 16 and subjected respectively to the pressure of the fluid and that of the medium. The fluid is located between the outer surface of one bellows 8 and the interior of a cap 12, and within the other bellows 9, which is externally subjected to the pressure of the medium in the outlet 3. On raising the rod 7, the bellows 9 is contracted between a valve member 5, raised from a seat 4, and a fixed flange 10, and the bellows 8 between a collar 13 of the shaft 7 and the cap 12. The membranes 14, 15 are preferably formed with surface corrugations (19), Fig. 2 (not shown), and channels 17 in the valve member allow the medium in the outlet passage 3 to pressurize the membrane 15 at all times.
