1394639 Vehicle bodies A P PEDRICK 26 Sept 1973 44982/73 Headings B7B B7J and B7H A "back-seat-driver" vehicle of the same general form as that of Specification 1,332,025 is characterized by a front-wheel-drive arrangement. It may also be equipped with a bumper system according to the theory set out in Specification 1,254,810, but using the vehicle's spare wheels as the bumper elements. As shown in plan in Fig. 2, the vehicle has a driver's seat A and passenger seats B, C, D one beside and two in front of the driver. The engine 8 is coupled by a shaft 9 to a pair of front wheels 10. There may be a second pair of front wheels 11 and the wheel sets may be fitted with caterpillar tracks for use on soft or icy ground or-by fitting paddles on the tracks-on water (as in the case of the amphibious vehicle of Fig. 3, not shown, which has a buoyancy ring fitted to it). The rear wheels 7 in Fig. 2 are steerable, but as an alternative to this arrangement the front wheels could be differentially clutched or braked to provide for steering. A pair of spare wheels 12, 14 are retractible into the vehicle or extensible by means of fluidpressure actuators 20. When so extended, the spare wheels act as bumpers.
