Abstract
1394609 Briquetting ZnO powder ISC SMELTING Ltd 3 Dec 1973 [11 Dec 1972 30 May 1973] 57093/72 and 25631/73 Heading C1A Very finely powdered zinc oxide or zinc oxide and lead oxide comprising up to 50% PbO and up to 25% impurities is briquetted as a blastfurnace feed by forming into pellets with an average diameter of 2-10 mm., bringing to 500-800‹ C. and briquetting at 500-800‹ C. and 1-20 tons/sq. inch. The pellets may be formed by a disc or drum pelletizer dried and heated to at least 600‹ C. then brought to 500-800‹ C. or in a rotating kiln at 900- 1300‹ C. and cooled to 500-800‹ C. A carbonaceous solid, e.g. coke breeze may be added to the powder. The starting material may be Waelz oxide fume, "blue powder" or "baghouse oxide".
