Abstract

1394532 Packages PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 27 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 14669/73 Heading B8C A package for a rectangular array of containers, such as cartons or cans 10, comprises a flexible sleeve 12 in the form of a sheet of polythene, for example, which is wrapped round the sides of the array and seamed at 15, one end of the sleeve then being folded under at least part of the base of the array, the two wings so formed being turned up and sealed to the sides as at 19. Partial heat-shrinking may be employed in applying the sleeve in one embodiment. The sleeve is not applied under tension so that a band may be inserted between each wing and the containers 10 to apply lifting force F, this insertion tensioning the sleeve to grip and hold the array together. Tear-strips in the sides of the sleeve may be provided. Containers 10 may rest on a support sheet 11 to which sleeve 12 may be secured. Another form uses an opaque sleeve 12, apertured to expose price marks on the cartons, and completely covering the base of the array, hand holes being provided.
