Abstract

1394355 Splitting JAPANESE NATIONAL RAILWAYS and SANWA KIZAI CO Ltd 22 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972 7 Feb 1973 (2) 20 March 1973 (2)] 39874/73 Heading B5E A crusher for concrete structures comprises a pair of crushing jaws 1, 2 one of which is movable towards the other by device 4 and has a tool 6, for penetration of concrete, the jaws being carried by a part 3 rotatable relative to a carrier 7. The jaw 1 has a crusher bed or anvil 5 and is secured to the part 3 which is hollow and houses the device 4 in the form of a piston-and-cylinder assembly for moving the jaw 2 carrying the tool 6 which has a chisel edged shaped body. The part 3 is secured to a shaft 8a mounted in bearings in a pivot device 8, and a gear 8d on the shaft engages racks 8e, movable by piston-andcylinder assemblies 8f whereby the part is rotated so that the jaws 1, 2 can be arranged to embrace a structure to be demolished. The device 8 is carried by a plate 8g connected by a pivot pin 9 to one end of the carrier in the form of a beam 7. A bracket 8h on the plate is connected by a link 10 to a link 12 pivoted to the beam and to the rod 11a of a piston-and-cylinder assembly 11 mounted on the beam 7. The intermediate part of the beam is pivotally mounted to a lifting beam 13 and is movable about the pivot by a piston-and-cylinder assembly 14, 14a. The lifting beam 13 is movable about a pivot on a vehicle 14<SP>1</SP> by a piston-and-cylinder assembly 15. Operation of the assemblies 11, 14, 15 and 8f moves the crushing jaws to embrace the structure to be demolished and operation of the assembly 4 moves the crushing tool 6 towards the bed 5 to crush the structure. In another embodiment, the crushing bed 5 has teeth on its face and is mounted on a ball joint on the member 1. In a further embodiment, the crushing tool is rotatably adjustable on the jaw 2. The supply to the assembly 4 may be through a path in the shaft 8. A device (25, Fig. 13, not shown) may be mounted on the jaw 2 and advanced by a piston-and-cylinder assembly to disengage the crushing tool from the concrete structure being demolished.
