Abstract
1394269 Welding by fusion GKN SANKEY Ltd 26 Nov 1973 [25 Nov 1972] 54563/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division B7] In a wheel rim for a vehicle, e.g. an earthmover, comprising a rim base 10 having at one edge a fixed tyre bead seat 27 and a fixed abutment holding a tyre bead retaining flange 14 on the rim and at the other edge a gutter 19, a bead seat bond 11 which provides a tyre bead seat 21 and an abutment 22 holding a tyre bead retaining flange 13 on the rim and which is fitted on the base 10 to overlie the gutter 19, and a locking ring 12 in the gutter 19 engaging the band 11 to hold the latter in place, the base 10 is formed of at least two parts welded together of which one part 18 provides the fixed seat 27 and abutment and is identical to the band 11. In the illustrated embodiment the part 18 overlaps a centre part 15 of the base 10 and is welded to the part 15 at both ends 29, 30 of the overlap, and the part 15 is in turn welded at 20 to a side part 17 of the base 10 containing the gutter 19. The part 17 may be wider, and the part 15 narrower, than is shown in which case the two parts will be welded together at 20a. A circumferential groove 16 may be provided in the part 17 for reception of the sealing ring acting between the band 11 and base 10. Specification 1,110,707 is referred to.
