Abstract

1393825 Press brakes CANRON Inc 16 May 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 23382/73 Heading B3E [Also in Division G3] A programming system for a press brake comprises a backguage 46, a backgauge adjustment assembly for controlling movement of the backgauge, a plurality of backgauge positioning devices which can be pre-set in a non-functional condition, and devices for establishing the backgauge positioning devices in a functional condition in accordance with a predetermined program in between work strokes of the press brake. To program the backgaug it must be restricted as to position and then sequenced as to the use of certain predetermined adjustments in accordance with the bending operations to be formed. Movement of the backgauge, 46, Fig. 5, is controlled by a cylinder 37 and piston (39), Fig. 10 (not shown), in a frame 21. Power is supplied to either end of the cylinder for movement. The backgauge is positioned by screw drives 71-(77), Fig. 4 (not shown), and a latch 89 carried by a drive nut 87 threadedly mounted on each screw drive. A spring 95, Fig. 7, holds the latch in an out-oflatching position and a core 107 attached to the latch via a spring 109 rotates the latch into a latching position upon energization of a solenoid 105. One end of each screw drive supports a chain sprocket 83, each sprocket being offset from the other sprockets associated with both gauge adjustment assemblies. A plurality of backgauge selector switches 189 of a bank 187 and a plurality of program selector sequence switches 185 of a bank 183 are used to establish various backgauge positioning devices according to a predetermined program. Sets of contacts 185a-185d are used in determining repeat strokes where a particular backgauge setting can be used more than once and up to four times in succession in a particular sequence. Contacts 185e are used to correlate the sequence switches to the operation of the backgauge and depth stop controls. A bank 191 includes depth stop selector switches 193. The three banks of switches 185, 187, 191 are mounted on a console 197 panel for use by an operator in programming, in advance, the operations to be performed by the press brake. A stepping switch 201 is associated with the program selector sequence switches and has a plurality of cam-operated contacts 203-241 which are set to function in accordance with a particular schedule, Fig. 12 (not shown). Switches 375 are associated with program selector switches 185b, c, d and related to respective stopping switch contacts 217, 225, 233. Any of relays 391 may be preselectively energized when the contacts of a related stepping switch close and the switches 375 make it possible to selectively introduce any one of the available adjustments into a program at various points in a sequence since relays 391 determine the backgauge and depthgauge adjustments.
