Abstract

1393783 Pressure cooker J H BASS 10 April 1972 9909/72 Heading B1X Apparatus for cooking food comprises a pressurizable receptacle 16 for containing a hot non-aqueous liquid cooking medium, closure means 18 for closing and sealing the receptacle, means 20 which may be electrical or gas-fired to heat the cooking medium to a predetermined temperature and to maintain this temperature in the receptacle for a predetermined time, and means for effecting separation of the cooking medium from the food and lowering the level of cooking medium in the receptacle at the end of the predetermined time before the opening of the closure means to allow removal of the food. The liquid level may be lowered by the opening of valve 49 to allow the liquid to flow into insulated annular container 46 through conduit 48 and filter 47, liquid being returned to the cooking receptacle by conduit 50. The food may be held in a removable wire mesh "caddy" (66, Fig. 4 not shown) and this may be supported within the receptacle on a disc 55 which is vertically movable for separation of the food and the cooking medium at the end of the cooking period (Figs. 12, 13 not shown).
