Abstract

1393558 Photographic development HOECHST AG 22 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 59331/72 Headings G2H and G2X Photo-sensitive material is developed by passing it into a bath of circulating developer liquid at a relatively static portion thereof and discharging it from the bath below the surface of the liquid through squeezing means which squeeze the material and substantially prevent developer from escaping from the bath. An apparatus for effecting the development has a pair of rollers for effecting the squeezing and an inclined bowed base element, the lower end of which is positioned close to the nip of the rollers, for supporting the material as it is transported through the bath. As shown an exposed electro-photographic printing plate 13 slides from a table 12 on which it has been held by a stop 11 between rollers 1, 2 which feed it into a bath 7 into which developer has been sprayed through orifices 8. The spraying causes circulation of the developer, but a baffle 6 provides a relatively static zone, into which the plate is inserted. The plate then passes through the developer over a supporting element 10 and ribs 15 and is then ejected by squeeze rollers 3, 4 on to table 17. Rollers 3, 4 substantially prevent escape of developer, but a bath 16 is provided for collecting any which does escape and also any developer from overflows (27) which control the developer level 14 in bath 7, this developer is then returned to supply tank (22) for recycling. The rollers may have roughed metal, glass, ceramic or elastomeric surfaces.
