Abstract

1392511 EHT supplies PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 17596/72 Heading H2F [Also in Division H3] A flyback EHT and sawtooth current generator for TV apparatus includes switching means which is periodically non-conducting during flyback periods # and conducting during scan periods T-# and a sixth order network connected to the switching means and comprising a transformer having at least one primary winding and a secondary winding feeding a rectifier for generating said EHT from voltage pulses occurring during the flyback periods, said network having three resonant frequencies substantially equal to: where K = 1, 5 and 7 and S is a correction factor based on the extent of S-correction. The invention reduces the internal resistance of the EHT generator by providing voltage pulses having wide, flat tops. Fig. 4 shows a line output stage in which the switching means is transistor 12, coupled to balanced primary windings 2a, 2b of transformer 1 feeding deflection coils 9 via an S-correction capacitor 11 and linearizing components 10. The sixth order network is provided by a tertiary winding 5 and a parallel resonant circuit 16, 17, together with self-capacitance and leakage inductance. A voltage-multiplying EHT rectifier 14 may be employed. The balanced arrangement minimizes radiation. An inductor 19 is arranged to speed up turn-off of transistor 12. Diode 20 and the base-collector diode of transistor 12 provide damping. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the emitter is earthed and the supply E connected between earth and a tapping on the primary winding. Resonant circuit 16, 17 is connected between the upper end of the primary and the lower end of the EHT secondary 4. In Fig. 7 (not shown), the resonant circuit 16, 17 is connected into series with capacitor 13 and the tertiary winding 5 is omitted. Detailed equivalent circuits are provided. Expressions are given for optimum relationship between various parameters. Reference is also made to values of K equal to 1, 3, 5 or 1, 3, 7, but such arrangements are stated to be impracticable and outside the scope of the invention.
