Abstract

1391902 Converting COUTANT ELECTRONICS Ltd 24 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 7971/71 Heading H2F [Also in Division G3] In an A.C./D.C./A.C./D.C. converter, the A.C. mains is rectified at BR and fed to an inverter comprising transistors VT1, VT2, output transformer T and capacitors Cl and C2, connected as shown, the output from transformer T being rectified by diodes D so as to produce the required D.C. output. The transistors VT1, VT2 are switched by control pulses of constant width so that the output voltage may be varied by varying the repetition rate of the pulses. The pulse frequency may be of the order of 20 kHz. The output may be compared with a reference (such as a Zener diode) and the error voltage arranged to operate a voltageto-frequency converter VTF which determines the frequency of the controlled pulses from the gating circuit GT. The transistors may be saturated so that the output is a square wave.
