Abstract

1391152 Metal working presses US BAIRD CORP 14 May 1973 [27 Nov 1972] 22895/73 Heading B3H A multistage press for progressive operations on a continuous stock 16 comprises a pair of opposed gang slide assemblies 32 each provided with independently actuated slides 36, 38 movable perpendicularly to the feed direction A-A of the stock and mounted on a base plate 34 slidably positioned on the press bed 12. The slides 34 are each guided between a gib base 72, Fig. 4, and a plate 76 bolted to the gib base to define a slot. The position of the gib base 72 on the base plate 34 is adjustable in increments determined by holes 48 in the base plate slot 58. The gib plate is held in position by a bolt 84. The slides of each gang assembly are individually actuated through an adjustable linkage 90, 94, 98, to vary the slide stroke, by a cam 40 on a common shaft 26 for the slides of each gang assembly. Each slide has mounting holes 88 for working tools (not shown). Each gang slide assembly can also have a vertically acting slide 38, Fig. 5, guided by a block 124 on a gib base 122 adjustably mounted on the base plate 34. The slide 38 is actuated by a cam 40 through linkage 146, 150 whose pivot position 152 is changeable to 152<SP>1</SP> to alter the slide stroke. The vertical slide 38 can act either above or below the stock 16, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown).
