Abstract

1390940 Testing packages H FOCKE [trading as FOCKE & PFUHL 16 March 1972 [19 March 1971] 12235/72 Headings B8C [Also in Division G1] A package 12 is tested for the presence of a box label or sealing strip 18 over the raised edge 21 of a cover flap 20 by sliding a sensing member 11 over the package so as to abut the edge 21 and initiate a warning in the absence of label or strip. The sensing member 11 is pivoted on a housing 10 about an axle 28 and is biased towards a stop 29 by a spring 30. The housing 10 is pivoted on column 13 about axis 25 and is biased towards a stop 27 by spring 35. Column 13 may be pivoted about axle 14 by cam 15 to cause the sensing member 11 to slide over the package. If the end of the sensing member 11 abuts the raised edge 21 of the package, the head 10 rotates clockwise about its axis 25 and actuates an inductive sensor or a microswitch to initiate the warning. The sensing member is provided with a raised part 33 for abutting the edge 21 should the end 11a of the sensing member pass under the edge 21 of the flap 20. A member 32 is pivoted about axle 28 on housing 10 and biased towards stop 29 by a spring 34, and serves to hold the flap 20 down if it should be loose.
