Abstract

1390929 Making extrusion dies SIMON ENG Ltd 28 June 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 43918/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division B5] An annular die provided with radially directed die holes, through which pelletizable material may be extruded by rollers traversing the internal periphery of the die, comprises a radially outer annular metal component supporting a radially inner annular component of harder wear resistant material. The outer component is preferably of greater thickness than the inner component, and the components comprise a low or medium alloy steel ring which is shrunk on to a thinner high alloy bearing steel ring to which it is doweled prior to machining of the die, followed by heat treatment to develop hardness in the inner component and fatigue and impact resistance in the outer component. The components may additionally be secured together by adhesive.
