Abstract

1390338 Artificial turf TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 13 June 1973 [14 June 1972] 28056/73 Heading A4X [Also in Division B5] A monofilamentary ribbon of a synthetic thermoplastics material has a thick central portion and a pair of tapered portions extending from either side of the central portion as shown in Fig. 1. The thermoplastics material is suitably a polyamide, polyolefin or polyester which is melt spun by conventional methods to produce the ribbon as above or in a preferred form in which the tapered portions have corrugated surfaces as in Fig. 2. The ribbon preferably has helical crimps and by twisting several ribbons together in plies and attaching to a backing material a product suitable for use as a synthetic turf is produced.
