Abstract

1389902 Cryosorption pumps OSTERREICHISCHE STUDIENGESELLSCHAFT FUR ATOMENERGIE GmbH 23 June 1972 [8 June 1972] 29618/72 Heading F1N A cryosorption pump comprises a pump member 2 suspended within a casing 1 so as to be spaced therefrom by only the filler tube 7 for the coolant reservoir 4, from which a tube 3 for cooling the pump member 2 extends. The pump member 2 comprises heat sinks in the form of plates 11 attached to tube 3, the plates having upturned flanges 17 which overlap to leave gaps for gas to penetrate therebetween to the adsorption media 12 supported on plates 11. Alternate forms of heat sinks are also described Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The pump may have the member 2 suspended from a pipe 16, Fig.5 which forms part of a closed coolant circulation system, the member 2 being thus suspended from the inlet and outlet passages for the coolant. A getter substance may be condensed onto cold parts of the pump to give an additional pumping action, such as titanium Fig.7 (not shown).
