Abstract

1389222 Centrifugal pumps JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 17 July 1972 [23 July 1971] 34551/71 Heading F1C A pump comprises an impeller 28 within a chamber 15 for pumping liquid from an inlet 11 to an outlet 16, and an auxiliary impeller 29 in a chamber 19 which is sealed from the chamber 15 and from a chamber 18 containing the driving motor 22, fluid leaking from the chambers 15 and 18 into the chamber 19 being expelled by the impeller 29 to an outlet 21. The outlet 21 is connected to a drain. Shaft seals 25, 31 are provided between the chambers. A substantially constant flow of air drawn by the impeller 29 from the atmosphere via a conduit 27 (which also contains the motor cables), the chamber 18, a duct 30, and the shaft seal 25 into the chamber 19 prevents fuel or vapour from passing to the bearing 24 or the chamber 18. The pump is mounted on the bottom 13 of a fuel tank.
