Abstract
1388883 Luminescent screens MATSUSHITA ELECTRONICS CORP 13 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 27624/72 Heading H1D In the manufacture of a black matrix for a colour television screen wherein a photo-resist on the faceplate is exposed three times through a shadow mask to a light source placed in three different locations and the light passes through a correction lens and a filter or attenuator, the sizes of the dots so formed at the edges of the screen may vary considerably if the filter is near the lens because light passing to adjacent areas from the different source locations passes through widely separated areas of the filter and is therefore subject to different attenuations; this is avoided by placing the filter nearer to the shadow mask than to the lens. Preferably the distance between the light source and the filter is more than 1À5 times the distance between the light source and the lens. The filter may be of glass coated with metal and is preferably mounted so that its centre can be displaced laterally when the position of the light source is changed and so that it can be rotated during an exposure; alternatively, the light may be attenuated by means of a rotating shading blade. The apparatus may be used for depositing dots of polyvinyl alcohol on which a black matrix is formed, or alternatively for depositing phosphor dots.
