Abstract

1388327 Lasers CANON KK 29 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971 11 Dec 1971] 45073/72 Heading H1C A laser has a movable resonator mirror, e.g. for frequency stabilization or control, and a Brewster window adjacent the mirror. In Fig. 3 the mirror 2a is mounted in known manner on two leaf springs 12, and its position is adjustable by current supplied to a solenoid as described in detail with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). The Brewster 20 reduces polarization rotation caused by this arrangement. A further Brewster may be arranged at the far end of capillary tube 3 adjacent resonator mirror 2b. The space between the mirror and its associated window may be evacuated, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) to prevent mirror contamination and the effects of air flow in the space. The lengths of the materials used for the mirror mounts and the laser tube are chosen so that their total thermal expansion is zero, i.e. so that the mirror separation remains constant when the laser temperature varies. Typical dimensions, and an equation relating them, are given.
