Abstract

1387583 Polyester-epichlorohydrin rubber laminates DUNLOP Ltd 12 May 1972 [21 May 1971] 16181/71 Heading B5N A composite structure comprises a polyester component non-bonded without an adhesiveinterlayer to an epichlorohydrin rubber component. At least the surface of the polyester may be fused and solidified in contact with the rubber. The rubber may be vulcanized before or during contact with the polyester. The components may be bonded by injection or transfer moulding the polyester on to the rubber or by heating the assembly under pressure, e.g. in a compression mould, pressure preferably being maintained whilst the polyester solidifies. The polyester may be a homopolymer, e.g. polytetramethylene or polyethylene terephthalate, or a block copolymer or n amorphous blocks of polyether, aliphatic acid polyester, olefin polymer, or interlinked sub-blocks of these, with (n + 1) crystalline polyester blocks, such copolymers being described in detail. The rubber may be epichlorohydrin homopolymer or epichlorohydrin-ethylene oxide copolymer. Conventional additives may be present.
