Abstract

1387330 Tamping devices CHEMISCHE FABRIK KALK GmbH 28 Dec 1972 [26 Jan 1972] 59897/72 Heading F3A A tamping device which suppresses the dust and fumes &c. generated by the detonation of an explosive charge in a borehole, comprises : a closed hose-like plastics easing filled with finely particulate solid material; wherein the plastics casing has a wall thickness of 50 to 100 Á; and wherein the finely particulate solid material, with loose filling, just fills the volume of the cartridge. The particulate material is calcium chloride and/or magnesium chloride and may contain alkaline-acting compounds and/or oxidation agents and/or sodium chloride and/or wetting agents. 80% by weight of the particles have a diameter less than 1 mm. and more than 60% by weight of the particles have a diameter less than 0À3 mm. The casing consists of polyethylene, polystyrene or PVC. In use, the tamping device is either compressed in the borehole so that it kinks in several places or is burst to fill the entire cross-section of the borehole with particles.
