Abstract

1387135 Isoprene polymerization KURARAY CO Ltd 19 June 1972 28634/72 Heading C3P Trans-1,4-polyisoprene is prepared by polymerizing isoprene in an inert hydrocarbon in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of (A) a compound AlR 3 where R is a C 1 -C 18 hydrocarbon group, (B) VCl 3 , VCl 4 or a compound VCl 4-m Y m where Y is a C 2 -C 18 organic radical linked to the vanadium through an oxygen atom and (C) a compound T 1 X 4 or R<SP>1</SP>T 1 X 3 where X is Cl, Br or I or OR<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are C 1 -C 18 hydrocarbon groups in the presence of molecular hydrogen. In the examples isoprene is polymerized in benzene or heptane using triisobutylaluminium, VCl 4 or VCl 3 and T 1 (OBu) 4 or T 1 Cl 4 .
