Abstract
1387056 Pipe couplings INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 7 March 1972 [13 March 1971] 10449/72 Heading F2G A pipe joint includes a half joint, in which a tubular diaphragm 7 is enclosed between telescoping members 5 and 6. The diaphragm, which may be made of textile reinforced rubber, has metal stiffening rings (15, 21) at the ends so that it may be clamped to the ends of members 5 and 6. In a compressed air coupling between railway vehicles, hoses 3, 4 are connected by gaskets 3<1>, 4<1> to members 5 of the half-joints to allow slight angular displacements of the halfjoints. The air pressure exerted on annular faces 13 presses gaskets 10 into fluid-tight contact. Diaphragm-carrying members 20 are not secured to members 6, but can move inwardly under impact to shield the gaskets 10 from excessive strains.
