Abstract

1386622 Bookmark inserting machine RAHDENER MASCHINENFABRIK AUGUST KOLBUS 1 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 4668/72 Heading B6A In a device for inserting a length of strip between two sheet members, e.g. bookmark ribbon into books, the sheet members advanced by a continuously movable conveyer 5, are separated by a blade 21, the strip 23 is supplied via a channel 22 and cut by a cutter 26 and cam operated clamping means, e.g. spring loaded clamps 27, are moved in synchronism with the conveyer to clamp said strip, advance it, and release the strip between said separated sheet members. Books 3 fed to a front stop 20 are moved to the conveyer, comprising lugs 4 on an endless chain 5, by oscillating arms 18. The books, having their binding adjacent the chain 5 are opened as they pass the blade 21 and the bookmark ribbon, already clamped and being advanced ahead of the book by the clamps 27 on an endless chain, is inserted. The ribbon is cut after the book has passed the cutter 26, the leading end of the ribbon being pulled downwardly, before being released by the clamps, and then folded back and glued to the book by mechanism 41, 42. The blade and channel may be combined. The cutter may be controlled by a ribbon length sensor. A book sensor may render the cam neans (37) inoperative so that the ribbon is not advanced when a book is absent on the conveyer lugs 4.
