Abstract

1386040 Band-knife cutting apparatus JMH HYLDIG 29 Aug 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 40586/73 Heading B4B An apparatus for cutting yieldable material 7, e.g. foamed rubber or plastics, comprises an endless band knife blade 3 having a single cutting edge 5, the blade being arranged to pass over rollers 2, 4 so as to thereby provide two runs having their cutting edges facing in opposite directions. As shown in Fig. 1, a pair of rollers 2 are mounted on a rotatable shaft 1, one roller being secured to the shaft, the other roller being freely rotatable thereon; in a modification, each wheel 2 may be secured to independent shafts which are rotated in opposite directions. A block of material 7 is mounted on a table 6 which, in use, is reciprocated under the knife so that a strip of material is cut from the block as the table is moved in each direction. In an alternative construction, the material can be stationary and the band knife mechanism moved bodily to effect the cutting. The cutting edge of the blade may be formed by a large chamfer on one side and a smaller chamfer on the other side.
