Abstract

1385208 Reinforced foam laminates; moulding cellular articles BAYER AG 12 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 22300/72 Addition to 1233910 Headings B5N and B5A The invention of Specification 1,233,910 is modified in that the reinforcement is so disposed that at least one mat of the reinforcing insert is completely embedded in the outer surface layer, which is a gel coat, e.g. of epoxy resin, polyester or polyurethane, optionally in association with another layer, and that none of the reinforcing inserts protrude through the gel coat. As shown, the outer surface layer 1<SP>1</SP>, comprising a metal foil 8<SP>1</SP> and a gel coat 9<SP>1</SP>, and foam core 6<SP>1</SP>; e.g. polyurethane, are reinforced by an insert 2<SP>1</SP> comprising mats 3<SP>1</SP> and associated loose fibre structures 5<SP>1</SP>, one mat being completely embedded in the gel coat. In other embodiments, more than one mat and part of the innermost loose fibre layer are so embedded. The thickness of the insert penetrated may vary in different parts. The mat may be a woven fabric, or metal wire fabric or lattice, and suitable materials for mats and loose fibre structures are specified in Specification 1,233,910.
