Abstract

1385111 Analogue-digital converters MULLARD Ltd 2 Aug 1972 36147/72 Heading G4H [Also in Division H3] An apparatus producing a ten digit binary coded output B 1 -B 10 indicative of the input frequency employs a plurality of frequency discriminators D (see also Division H3) having outputs dependent on the sine and cosine functions of a frequency dependent phase angle # introduced in the discriminators. Adding and subtracting circuits in the video amplifiers produce a four level output which is sampled and stored in bi-stable stores under the control of timing circuits actuated when the input attains a certain threshold. A logic processing circuit forms the coded output from the stored values. The least significant digits B 8 -B 11 are formed from the output of the eighth discriminator while each of the more significant digits is obtained from the output of the corresponding discriminator and the three succeeding digits. The frequency of a weak back-ground signal may be measured by closing a switch S after the elapse of main pulse duration.
