Abstract

1383553 Controlling vehicles ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 11940/72 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] In an anti-wheel-locking device for the brake system of a motor vehicle comprising a regulating valve (as shown, one for each wheel, 14 to 17), a sensor (as shown, one for each wheel, 18 to 21), and a control device 22, transducing means is provided which includes a potentiometer which is automatically adjustable in dependence on deviations of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle from the direction of motion of the vehicle (see Division F2). The signal from the transducing means may be dependent on the value of the angle through which the steering wheel is rotated during turning, or on both the value and direction of the angle. Alternatively the transducing means may incorporate a horizontal pendulum which governs the potentiometer when the vehicle's axis deviates from the direction of motion during normal steering or skidding or when the vehicle is on a banked road; in this case also, the signal may depend on either the amount of deviation or both the amount and direction of the deviation. As shown, both transducers are provided, at 24<SP>1</SP> and 35<SP>1</SP> respectively, and each provides a signal depending on amount and dierction of deviation. The effect of transducer 24<SP>1</SP> on braking is such that in the case of, e.g. a steered turn to the left, the slip of one or both wheels on the right of the vehicle is reduced, so a turning moment which assists steering is created around the vertical axis of the vehicle. Switching means may be provided (see Division F2), so that only the " horizontal-pendulum " transducer 35<SP>1</SP> is in circuit when the driver steers in a direction to control a skid, while only the " steering " transducer 24<SP>1</SP> is in circuit when the driver steers around a curve in the normal way.
