Abstract

1382804 Gripping tools MASONS GENERAL ENGS Ltd 10 Jan 1972 [28 Oct 1970] 51166/70 Heading B4W [Also in Division F2] A nut 1 is positioned and held during fixing to an inaccessible surface of a panel or tube (4) by a tool including a screw-threaded body 6, adapted to be screwed into the tapped bore 7 of the nut, pivoted at 10 to a rod 9. The nut 1 is substantially semi-cylindrical, with the surface opposed to the semi-cylindrical face formed to correspond to the inaccessible surface. A collar 2 on said opposed surface surrounds the opening of the bore 7 and is a snug fit in a hole (5) in the panel or tube. For installation, the tool body 6 is screwed into the nut, which is lowered endwise through the hole (5) while supported by the rod 9. A wing-nut 11 on the rod 9 engages a support bridge (not shown), through which the rod 9 passes, to enable the nut 1 to be clamped against the inaccessible surface after it has pivoted level behind the panel. The collar 2 is then welded, glued, or staked in the hole (5) of the panel. The tool can then be removed.
