Abstract

1382554 Organosilicon coatings TORAY INDUSTRIES INC 27 Feb 1973 9612/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Substrates are coated with a composition comprises (A) 10-200 pbw hydrolysed silicon tetraalkoxide Si(OR') 4 , (B) 100 pbw hydrolysed silane RSi(OR') 3 , wherein R' is C 1-5 alkyl and R is C 1-3 alkyl or alkenyl, and (C) 0.01-10 pbw per 100 of (A) plus (B) of an alkali metal C 1-5 carboxylate, thiocyanate, nitrite, aluminate and or carbonate. In the Examples hydrolysed Si(OC 4 H 9 ) 4 in butanol or ethanol is mixed with hydrolysed CH 3 Si(OCH 3 ) 3 in butanol or ethanol and with NaCNS and butanol or MIK or with NaOOC-CH 3 , NaNO 2 , KNO 2 , NaAlO 2 or Na 2 CO 3 and acetic acid. The product solutions are applied to polymethylmethacrylate plates; they may also be applied to paper, wood, ceramics and metals, and optical lenses.
