Abstract
1381944 Controlling coating weight in hot dipping USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 18 Feb 1972 [23 Feb 1971] 7691/72 Heading C7F A hot dip coating weight control apparatus 18, comprises a series of nozzles 30 with different arcuate slot lengths, mounted around the periphery of a header 22 and means for rotating the apparatus about the header axis to bring the appropriate nozzle opposite the moving coated substrate S. The flow of fluid e.g. air, from the header to the unused nozzles is stopped by baffle 38. Two, three or four nozzles may be mounted on the header 22 which is journalled in housing 23 and rotation is effected by wheel 25 and worm 26. Horizontal adjustment of the nozzles is by motor driven screw 27 and fluid is supplied to the nozzles by flexible connectors and releasable couplings. The baffler 38 is replaced by a screen 40 in the operative nozzle which is inclined at 20 degrees above to 45 degrees below a plane normal to the pass line of substrate S. The apparatus enables a nozzle of correct slot length to be quickly positioned when the strip width S is changed. The apparatus may be used in hot dip coating of steel strip with Zn, Al, Sn, Pb or their alloys.
