Abstract

1381849 Tea-bags A RAMBOLD 19 July 1973 [26 July 1972] 34364/73 Heading B8C An infuser bag with at least one chamber containing in particular tea and having the head of the bag reinforced by a strip 20 which forms two side pieces 24, 26 folded together and holding the bag head between them and attached to the latter is characterized in that the fold line 22 of the strip 20 is disposed at a distance from the folded edge of the bag head 30 so that the projected portion forms a handle 31. The bag in all of the three embodiments described comprises a double chamber bag which is formed from a tube of fleece-like paper folded to form two openings which are folded down at the head of the bag. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, an elongated rectangular strip 20 is folded along a centre line 22 to provide equally-long, side pieces 24, 26 which cover the sides of the bag and so that the head 30 of the bag is at a fixed interval from the fold line 22 to form a handle portion 31. The head 30 of the bag 24 is connected to the strip sides 24, 26 by welding or by a non-rusting clip 32, made, e.g. of aluminium. Transverse cuts 42, 44 are formed near the free ends of the sides 24, 26 respectively and extend approximately to the centre of the strip 20 so that, when tea is made, the two sides 24, 26 can be folded upwards directly beneath the clip 32 and connected together along the cuts 42, 44 as shown in Fig. 3, the bag 28 in this manner being fully exposed for immersion in the liquid in a cup 46. In a modification, Figs. 4-6, not shown, particularly suitable for glasses, a tab (150), pointing towards the head (130) is cut out from the side 124 at an appropriate distance below the fold line 122 so that, when the side (124) is raised for introducing the bag into the liquid in a glass (152), the tab 150 can be engaged over the head (120). A tab (156) is also cut out from the other side (126), to engage the inside upper edge of the glass (152). In a third embodiment, Fig. 9, which represents a kind of combination of the first two embodiments, tabs 260, 262 are formed in both sides 224, 226 of the strip 220 in the region of the handle 231 and are attached to the bag head by a clip 232, the side piece 224 having a cut 268 for interengaging the side 226. The bag paper may be lined on one side with a synthetic plastics film.
