The layer may be of foam rubber or plastics material such as polyurethane foam. The layer may be applied directly to the outer surface of the passenger or goods carrying compartment or be bonded or otherwise secured to a water impervious sheet secured to such surface. The outer surface of the absorbent layer may be wholly exposed or covered with a porous or perforated protective skin. The vehicle may also be a boat or trailer.
