Abstract

1381366 Hydraulic reciprocating motors DEERE & CO 15 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58074/72 Heading F1A In a variable-speed hydraulic motor comprising a rotary cylinder block 34 with spring-loaded, radial pistons 38 engaging a multi-lobed cam track 22 through rollers 40, the cylinder ports 48 communicate sequentially with valve face passages 61 connected to at least four passages 51 to 54 which are selectively connectable by valves to pressure supply or return, such that the motor can be operated in forward or reverse rotation at different speeds. The different speeds are obtained by connecting selected passages 51 to 54 to return so that associated groups of pistons idle. The cam lobes may be in groups of sequentially increasing height to provide different displacements, e.g. heights in the ratio 1:2 to give three speeds, Figs.5 and 6 (not shown), and 1:2:4 to give seven speeds, pilot-operated slide valves being provided to connect the appropriate groups of cylinders to supply and return, Figs.4, 6 and 8 (not shown). Balancing pistons 65 in alternate passages 61 bear against a thrust bearing 66.
