Abstract

1381174 Vehicle bumpers KITAYAMA KOGYO KK 18 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 47960/72 Heading B7J A vehicle bumper has a laminated main body a comprising a core member 2 formed of a corrosion-resistance treated steel sheet, to impart rigidity to the bumper, and covered on one side by a covering member 1 formed of a corrosion resistant sheet metal, either aluminium or stainless steel, to give an acceptable appearanc to the bumper. The core member 2 preferably has one or more integral projections 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP> on its side remote from the covering member 1. The body a is generally U-shaped in cross-section and a projection 3, Figs. 5 and 7, extends at right angles to the centre of the central portion of the U-shape, or alternatively two similar projections 3<SP>1</SP> may be provided as in Fig. 5. The projections 3<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 6, extend towards each other from the limbs of the U-shape and are perpendicular to the projections 3 or 3<SP>1</SP>. All of the projections 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and 3<SP>11</SP> may be formed by folding of the member 2. An attachment bracket 4, Fig. 7, may be spot-welded to a projection 3 at 6<SP>1</SP> and to a limb at 6. The edges of member 1 extend beyond those of member 2 and are folded thereagainst at 1<SP>1</SP>.
