Abstract

1380741 Antibiotic compositions E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 27 Jan 1972 [5 Feb 1971] 3983/72 Heading ASB A dry composition which forms an injectable, clear solution on addition of an aqueous injection vehicle comprises an intimate mixture of a dry, powdered, basic, acid or amphoteric antibiotic and a dry, powdered acidic or basic additive, the additive being basic when the antibiotic is acidic or amphoteric and acidic when the antibiotic is basic or amphoteric. Suitable additives are: alkali metal and ammonium carbonates, bicarbonates and phosphates, organic amines, alkali metal hydrogen sulphates and organic acids such as citric, tartaric and maleic acids. Antibiotics mentioned are the penicillins and cephalosporins (preferred), tetracyclines and erythromycin.
