Abstract

1380497 Purification of chlorinated hydrocarbons IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 May 1973 [14 Feb 1972] 6695/72 Heading C2C Contaminants comprising ferric chloride are removed from a chlorinated C 1-2 hydrocarbon having at least 3 Cl atoms per molecule by contacting with active carbon. The process is particulaly useful for removing contaminants from a chlorinated hydrocarbon-fractionation unit by withdrawing a portion of the solution, contacting with active carbon and returning the purified solution to the unit. In the examples sym - tetrachloroethane, 1,1,1 - trichloroethane and 1,2,2-trichloroethane are purified.
