Abstract
1380031 Indicating measurement PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 May 1973 [27 May 1972] 24831/73 Heading G1J An instrument for setting the required value and displaying the actual value of a parameter controlled by an automatic control system has a housing 1 containing an externally adjustable potentiometer 29/32 by which the required value is set, a front plate 2 having an arcuate scale 3, over which a set pointer 4 moves to indicate the setting of the potentiometer, and an arcuate window 6 concentric with and extending over at least the same angle as the scale 3, a stationary intermediate plate 10 spaced behind the front plate 2 and having a cut-out 11, and, behind the intermediate plate, a disc 12 rotatable by a servomotor (not shown), and rigidly connected to a flexible annular indicator strip 7 between the front and intermediate plates 2, 10 the strip 7 having a radial gap, and one of the free ends 7a formed by the gap passing through the cutout 11 in the intermediate plate 10 into the space between the plate 10 and the disc 12 so that the portion of the strip 7 visible through the front plate window 6 indicates the actual value of the parameter. The arm 14 of the strip 7 and the disc 12 are rigid with a sleeve 9 rotatable on a shaft 8 to which the set pointer 4 and the potentiometer arm 32 are rigidly secured. The shaft 8 has a knob 5 outside the housing 1. A friction wheel 13 driven by the servomotor is spring-urged into contact with the disc 12 to drive it. Stops 18, 19 on the disc 12 limit its rotational travel. A recess 20 with ramped ends 20', 20" in the disc periphery prevents wear of the friction wheel 13 when the disc 12 reaches its limit of travel. The disc 12 carries a second potentiometer arm 30 which contacts a resistance wire 28. The two potentiometers 28/30 and 29/32 are part of an electrical control circuit. The potentiometer wires 28, 29 are supported by a stationary insulating disc 25. Preferably the end 7a of the strip 7 is secured to a second disc (not shown) rigidly secured to the sleeve 9 between the plate 10 and the disc 12.
