Abstract

1379775 Direction finding; television G PUSCH 6 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 26374/72 Addition to 1355975 Headings H4D and H4F In the infra-red radiation monitoring apparatus claimed in Specification 1,355,975, the detectors are made only sensitive to radiation in the wavelength range of 3-4 Ám. Preferably the detection bandwidth is 50 to 300 nm. In the above wavelength range it is found that natural and reflected radiation from the natural surroundings, e.g. snow, brickwalls, concrete, grass &c. is at a minimum, such that the difference between levels of the radiation to be detected and that from the surroundings is at a maximum. Further protection against interference from the sun is provided by a narrow acceptance window. Detectors of lead sulphide cooled to 77‹ K. or cadmium-mercury-telluride cooled to 200‹ K. give improved detection.
