Abstract

1379549 Valves H W BURRINGTON (Jackes-Evans Mfg Co) 10 Dec 1971 52155/71 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] A throttle valve for insertion in the suction line between an evaporator and a compressor of a closed continuously-running refrigerating system has a valve member 74 mounted on a container 58, 66 of a temperature sensitive material 62, e.g. wax or water which acts on a piston 60 adjustably anchored by a spider 72 in a seat 55. A diaphragm 68 and a plug 70 are interposed between the mass 62 and the piston and a spring 75 urges the valve member towards the seat. In the temperature range between 39‹ and 28‹ F. the mass 62 undergoes a phase change and the valve member moves from a maximum to a minimum flow position. An actuator 24 of an expansion valve 18 is downstream of the throttle valve and comprises a fluid-pressure responsive diaphragm 30 which is also acted upon by temperature responsive material in chamber 36 having insulation 37. Spring 38 adjustably loads the expansion valve 18.
