Abstract
1379296 Expansion joints FRIEDRICH MAURER SOHNE 21 Aug 1972 [23 Nov 1971 10 April 1972] 38878/72 Heading E1B The longitudinally extending bars 5-9 of an expansion joint are supported by longitudinally spaced deformable supports each comprising a plurality of interconnected inclined members 11. The edge bars are rigidly connected to the structural members defining the gap. The inclined members in the embodiment shown are steel rods received in holes in the bars 5-9 and in connecting strips 13 and held in place by pins 12 and 15 respectively. The strips 13 may extend longitudinally to interconnect all the supports in one gap or may merely connect adjacent supports or be replaced by single connectors. In a modification the lower connectors are dispnesed with and the rods looped to U-section, in which case the upper ends of the rods may be longitudinally staggered..In a further modification a single rod is bent to a 3-dimensional configuration and is welded to top and bottom connecting strips. The rods may be replaced by steel sheets which may have Y section formed by bending alternate longitudinally spaced portion towards opposite sides of the gap. More than one layer of inclined members may be provided. Many modifications of members for interconnecting the adjacent inclined members and for connecting the inclined members to the bars are disclosed. For wider expansion gaps additional support in the form of fixed projections from the structural members supporting rollers on which the deformable supports are supported is provided.
