Abstract
1378932 Polyester coated wires DR KURT HERBERTS & CO 6 Jan 1972 [16 Jan 1971] 593/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A lacquer used in the production of stored insulating coatings on electric conductors comprises an organic solvent and a nitrogen-containing modified polyester resin produced by condensing an aromatic polycarboxylic acid having at least two ortho-carboxyl groups and at least one other functional group, a polyhydric alcohol and one or more compounds containing NH 2 groups which comprise 5-100 mol % of a carbohydrazide compound of the formula: in which R is an aromatic .ring system, the C atom or atoms of the carbohydrazide group or groups being linked to a ring atom, n is an integer of 1-3, A is a radical which is or comprises a group capable of reacting with the aromatic polycarboxylic acid and/or polyhydric alcohol also used to produce the nitrogen-containing modified polyester resin, m is 0 or an integer of 1-3 and n+m is at least 2. In Examples modified polyester resins are produced from reaction mixtures comprising (1) dimethyl terephthalate, tris-(2-hydroxyethyl)-isocyanurate, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride and terephthalic acid bis hydrazide in cresol, (2) dimethyl terephthalate, trimethylol propane, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride, 4, 4'-diamino-diphenylmethane and terephthalic acid bishydrazide in cresol, (3) dimethyl terephthalate, glycerol, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride and isophthalic acid bis-hydrazide in cresol, (4) adipic acid, glycerol, neopentyl glycol, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride and terephthalic acid bis-hydrazide in cresol, (5) dimethyl terephthalate, tris-(2-hydroxyethyl)-isocyanurate, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride and monomethyl terephthalatehydrazide in cresol (6) dimethyl terephthalate, tris-(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride and p-amino benzhydrazide in cresol and (7) dimethyl terephthalate, glycerol, ethylene glycol, trimellitic acid anhydride, 4, 4'-diamino-diphenyl methane and trimesic acid tris-hydrazide in cresol. In Example 8 (a) lacquers comprising the polyesters prepared in Examples 1-3 and 5-7, solvent naphtha, 4, a masked polyisocyanate prepared from trixylene and polymerised butyl titanate and (b) a lacquer comprises the polyester of Example methylol propane, tolylene diisocyanate and phenol, zinc octoate, xylene and cresol, are applied (e.g. by felt roller), to copper wires and stored.
